Hello, While everything is going fine, couple of members in the One Piece Wikia are seeking for 2 more adminstrators. While Justyn is fine but since he rarly respond(But edit the most) to our request so we need to have two more adminstrator to manage the site and help him. Can you set up another adminstrator voting again for 2 top editors who can become an adminstrators?

Justyn is still active and is also a bureaucrat. This means he can hold the election and promote the winners himself, without the need for staff intervention. If he wants to do the same thing I did last time, he should go to w:c:onepiece:Special:Activeusers and make a list of all those users (minus Angela/Sannse/myself, and other staff), and hold a vote. --Splarka (talk) 03:41, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for deleting that category from the Harry Potter Wiki. There is currently a backlog of various things for deletion but no active Admins or Bureaucrats (two of three have been inactive for over 6 months) to delete. I have been contributing heavily to the Wiki and feel that progress is hindered by this lack of Admin activity. I have contributed heavily to the English Wikipedia as well and am familiar with the interworkings of a Wiki. I am appealing to you for a promotion to Admin and Bureaucrat status so that I may cleanup pages for deletion, edit various protected pages to improve and update them, and hopefully be able to make some new Admins when the project picks up again. It is usually suggested to users wishing to adopt a Wiki that they continue to edit there for a week or three before requesting to adopt it (you've only been editing a few days?). Also, w:c:harrypotter:Special:Activeusers indicates dozens of people are active (that is, have edited in the last month) including one Bureaucrat. You should first have the community hold a vote on new administrators, and/or contact (email/talk page) User:Chosen_One (who edited once on December 27th) to choose some new administrators. I've had a poll up at the community portal to get the opinion of the rest of the community on gaining an Administrator/Bureaucrat and there appears to be consensus that we need one (see w:c:harrypotter:Harry Potter Wiki talk:Community Portal#Adminship). Hello. I need to rename a lot of pages. I asked in forum about the problems, i'm having when doing it(errors). So, they advised to request a temporary sysop status on my wiki. I'm from ru.science.wikia.com - admin of this wiki support this idea. So, if possible please give me this status(i think the period of two weeks will be enough). Thank you. Actually, if you just want sysop status temporarily, V-admin can admin you themself and then I can remove the administrator status after a few days.
However, if you are just going to be moving pages and have no need for other administrator powers, I can set you +b as a bot, which will let you move as many pages as you want. Does this sound good? Hi i was trying to install the Live Preview and went to the creator and found the new version InstaView so i tried to install it on w:c:Dofus:Dofus:InstaView/instaview.js, and after some bugs make it work but my almost 0 info on Java im wondering if there is code i dont need or should i keep it as it is? --Cizagna (Talk) 21:46, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikias Live Preview button appears directly below the normal edit box and on top of the copywriters notice, but the InstaView has the button between the "save page" and the "show preview" button, its nice, but all the warning message about copywriters eats a chunk of my visual space making it some times unpleasant (as far i have experimented) but i dont know how to change that to be display as livepreview. Hmm, you could put this CSS into your user/monobook.css on dofus to hide them and give you more visual space:

Ahh, you did not make it clear to me that you wanted to move the preview box, you only indicated that you wanted to move the preview button. Also, be careful of the changes you make. By changing the oldPreview ID to 'editpage-copywarn' you've made a later re-assignment of the old preview a few lines down a bit broken. That is why in my example I added a new variable for the insertion. Moving the preview box is not as easy, as it was appended to the form at the end. To customarily insert it would be easier using another insertBefore (see example). Try this (exactly as is, mindful if you make changes):

Hey Splarka thanks again for the help before. I thought I had what I wanted working but IEs being a pain. http://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Excerpt displays as intended on firefox but IE seems only to process one instance of <choose>, the tables also broken frames and bleeds off into the google ads. http://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Quote could be causing problems I copied it from wikipedia but have changed it slightly. <choose> can't be broken in IE and work in Firefox, because <choose> is completely server-side. If you stack two {{Quote}} together do they break in IE? --Splarka (talk) 22:01, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah the problems definitely with quote, I should have realised that. After some checking it was the table's attribute of align="left" that was causing problems, don't know why but I've removed that from the template and it works fine. Discordance 14:34, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorttable is something ive been looking to use in wikis for almost 2 years ever since i found Ævar's experiments in mediazilla. Apparently it made it into mediawiki 1.9, is Wikia going to update from 1.7a anytime soon? Wikipedia's using 1.10a by now. Discordance 00:54, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to be a pain i'm such a feature whore, but i've been trying to use Wikipedia:Wikipedia:NavFrame to hide spoiler sections. From the wikipedia documentation its done client-side with some css and js. I've copied the relevant sections to MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Common.js but I'm not getting the show/hide buttons added to http://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/User:Discordance/draft2 . I then added the js to Monobook.js and it works under the monobook skin. As i'm just copying and pasting code I can't see why it doesn't work in common.js. Having it work just for the monobook skin isn't ideal, any thoughts? I noticed that Tooltips and access keys which are defined on wikipedia in common.js are defined in monobook.js does wikia not use common.js? Has the Pikmin wikia been setup not to? Ok great, I appreciate it. My conundrum is that I created a page (scratchpad wiki) at http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Foster_care And that is going well. I created some headers using the double equals sign so that the page will have some "topics" and made a link in each one to a named link corresponding page of which I will begin working on. My problem seems to be that I can never create a "Category" link at the bottom of the page back to the appropriate foster care page because I have created ones with different capitalization of the same name and when I do a category link to "Foster Care" it goes to the page "Foster care".

1. I'll try it here.

[[Category:Foster Care]] versus [[Category:Foster care]] (I'll save this and see what happens, then come back. (Note: I added two categories see bottom of page) 2. Ok, I created two category links (which appear below) yet they say edit instead of taking me to the category I requested. Is it because I am in YOUR page and not in my own original scratchpad "foster care" page that the category's don't work right? Am I in essence creating new categories in YOUR page or User_Talk page instead of referring to my own main category of Foster Care? How do I make my links to "Foster Care" refer back to my own Foster Care scratchpad page with the "new" header at the top (the search box which creates a new page. Oh boy, confused you now huh? :)

Well, recently on my wiki Habbopedia. Angela removed my user rights because my brother was using my account and making inappropriate edits without my knowledge. The matter is now resolved and I got my admin rights back, but I think she forgot to give me my beauracratic rights back also, as I cannot promote more users to admin. I am the founder of this site.

Awhile ago you mentioned something about a discussion on creating wikia which share an article database at Forum:Wikia Anime (and Manga?) Project. I was wondering if there was any discussion on the topic going on anywhere because I remembered some things from my past dealings with MediaWiki. They don't technicaly need to be in the same database just the same database server, when I setup a MediaWiki installation which had a shared usertable and semi-shared permissions (Permissions which had some tags shared and some local), I had it setup with a shared database, and an individual database for each wiki. And the system worked quite nicely. I was wondering if there was any discussion on the topic because I'd be happy to contribute the few tricks I learned and used to setup that setup without much mess. I'd like to make the image background transparent, shift the "new messages" text more toward the middle of the box and change what $1 and $2 translate to (I don't understand where this is done). John Reaves (talk) 03:28, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
To make the background of the div transparent, you just use 'transparent' for a color value. To make the image transparent, you can use a png or gif with transparent sections or alpha transparency. You can even do both, for example (along with centering it):

That is called sockpuppeting. What browsers don't like that? Well, I'm not to worried about my peronal styles. But I guess I'll half to use .js for the wikia anime project stuff. You'll have to wait for the Common.js functionality (coming in the next version) to get everyone. I just use the Anime-Common.css for basic things like my box styling classes (used in shared templates mostly), universal things such as the forum css, etc... All the stuff there is stuff inside of the #bodyContent area. I actually have a Anime-Monobook.css counterpart already referenced if I ever need to do global css which is only applicable to the Monobook skin. I kinda think it's more common for a user to turn javascript off then to browse with a browser which dosen't support double @imports, I'll stick with @import for now. Hi there, I was wondering if you could shed some light on this mystery. This user seems to think his username has been banned, but when I check the IP block list there is nothing listed.

The reason given is vandalism, and I don't know why since I haven't actually edited anyone's pages yet other than one I started myself. If there was any vandalism, it was not intentional. The main trick before being deprecated was to use class{{{parameter|}}}="hiddenStructure". Wikipedia:HiddenStructure. Dear Splarka -

I have a code query. If you look at the Business Section of this list (which is under construction), you will see a notation that European Business Education indicates "abandoned" along with hyperlinks to the special pages of All Pages and Active Users. I was planning on copying and pasting these hyperlinks to each individual entry and then changing them to so that they pointed to the Wikia reflected on that particular line-item.

It would be of great assistance to me if the number of "active pages" and the number of "active users" (as well as the last modification date) would automatically appear (and be updated) each time this list is accessed. This would allow me to appropriate label Wikias as "abandoned" without actually having to visit each individual one. This, I expect, would save a great deal of time. (This labelling of "abandoned" Wikia might also be helpful to those of the Community Team who might be interested in removing these "abandoned" Wikia - but don't let's get ahead of ourselves.)

I know little of Wikia code. Is it possible to have a number appear of, for example, "active pages" without having to visit each Wikia - as I spoke of in the previous paragraph?

This has been looked into before. I think the conclusion was that it would be impossibly system intensive to keep 'live' (that is, everytime a wiki article was added on say, marketing.wikia, the system would have to go through and search every single page on every single wikia trying to embed that number). So, if it did get implemented, it would suffer from problematic caching (as our interwiki template system does, when it is working).
One solution is to host such a list offsite, and then automatically update it from Special:Statistics?action=raw periodically (examples: central marketing). One such site that does this on Wikia is http://s23.org/wikistats/wikia_html.php . --Splarka (talk) 03:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Since it was some of the tricks that you listed that inspired me to start it. I've just been working on an interesting trick to modify the searchbox. You had one which added a whois searchbox, and another which converted the searchbox into one which jumped to the view or editpages of an article. I've made an interesting trick at Anime:User:Dantman/searchswitch.js. The trick first creates a extra box above the search box. Inside that there are 5 links (Search, Article, Editcount, Prefixindex, and Listusers). Using those links makes the searchbox area flip through 5 different types of boxes. Which basically match the forms on the respective pages. So Editcount gives you a box to fill in a username. Prefixindex has a From textbox and a namespace dropdown. And Listusers has a groups dropdown and a username box. It's not completely finished yet because I still need to do some css to make the inputs fit in right the way the searchbox did. And I need to do something to make the style of the new box match that of the searchbox. Also, unfortunately this only works at the Animepedia because unfortunately it requires that a wiki have a Anime:MediaWiki:Namespaces.js and a Anime:MediaWiki:Groups.js so that it can fill in the Namespaces and Groups boxes. ~Dantman(talk) Mar 21, 2007 @ 14:33 (UTC)

[edit] Reducing includes while splitting code

Since you were the one mentioning about the includes in css I thought you'd be interested in a new mediawiki trick I thought of for large ammounts of CSS. I've managed to reduce the number of files the browser has to load, while allowing the code to be split up among even more pages. If you remember my use of Anime-Common.css and Anime-Userbox.css I found a different way to include Anime-Userbox.css into Anime-Common.css while at the same time splitting Anime-Common.css into even more files which don't half to be included by the browser. I now have, Anime-Box.css, Anime-Userbox.css, Anime-Content.css, Anime-Forum.css, and Anime-Misc.css. Which allows me to organize my CSS code better. But using the @import method of including all of them would strain the browser because it would half to load even more files. So I used a different trick. Inside of Anime-Common.css instead of @imports I have template transclusions. And inside of the @imports which include them such as Common.css I add &templates=expand to the @import link. This means that all the CSS can be organized into multiple files but the browser only has to include the Anime-Common.css file because the transclusions do all the work (And since the cache only has to change if you change the .css like it would anyways, it's not a server annoyance either). I would use this trick to make it so that I don't need to use the @import inside of the @import, but that wont work out with the cross-wiki stuff yet. ~Dantman(talk) Mar 23, 2007 @ 03:23 (UTC)

I was trying to wrap just the auto-summaries into a span so they could be hidden with css (but not destroyed/lost forever). However, I realized after reverting, that the auto-summaries are passed through a separate limited parser used for recent changes/histories/contribs/etc which parses almost nothing except wikilinks, so html tags of any kind is not allowed. I'm trying since about 1 hour and half, maybe more, to fix a thing on that page that dont look good. Scroll down and you'll see a thumb of an image. And the background of it is what i need to change so it be the same as the page. Can't put it transparent because of the line that sections have could be seen trough. I've try to look at the source of the page as we all can do with a left clic. I've found <div class="thumb tright"> that is the main box of thumbs images but it does nothing when i add body.ns-4 .thumb tright to the rule that set the background of the project namespace (Guild Wars Wikia: that is). Sorry if I'm hijacking the talk page. But firstly, you would use body.ns-4 .thumb to reference that element (that space is telling the browser to look for a element with the name tright which doesn't exist). The second thing I found out after a little while of annoyance trying to figure out why it wouldn't change colors. Is that that area you're talking about isn't the background. It's a border. So if you use body.ns-4 .thumb { border: 0px; } then that area will disappear. I don't understand why a border was placed around there in the first place. If they wanted an area around the box to have things pushed away from them they should've used a margin. If you want to know my little secret trick to easily figuring out how CSS will work. I use the WebDeveloper extension for Firefox. You might want to try it to with all that CSS, you can edit the css and view exactly what it will look like if you make those changes to the file, without editing anything. Also in the Information menu there's a Show element information option which will show the list of ancestors, with their tagname, id, and classes of any element you hover over. And if you click on it you can get more information about that individual element. I though of that. But using a border is silly, isn't it ? So i discarded it. Duh! I'll try it... And for CSS i have TopStyle Lite. I mostly never use Firefox. Everyone say we should only use Firexfox now because IE is not secure, but IE7 is a little better than IE6. Aside that, i'm really not the kind of person to get viruses and others things like that. Five years, maybe more, that i have my computer, never a single viruse. Except when my gaming french friend send me a file las year... no problem, Avast! found it. I use Firefox or Opera only to verify that my websites (like this one [4]) looks the same in all of them.
All that just to say, explain, that even if the Firefox extension (that i have) is wonderfull, the problem was not my tools, it was just the silly used of the wrong property (tough i did not verified that theory yet). I would never do i thing as silly as that on my web site. But, that been silly is just one point of vue. Maybe they have some good reasons to have done that. Who know?

That isn't related to the version (the magazines and openserving I believe upgraded from 1.5 directly to 1.10) but related to the sites themselves. They are not fully integrated into Wikia's mediawiki (they don't yet share the interwiki map, global vandal blocks, shared new messages and several other things). It seems like there's a bug with the script. If one's looking up a username with spaces, "name1_name2" takes the place of "name1 name2", which often ends up as a non-existent username. (User "name1_name2" does not exist. Check given username for possible typos.) In those cases, the underscore has to be manually replaced with a space. Well, even so, the bot flag is only useful for two reasons: 1) hides edits from Special:Recentchanges, 2) lets that login bypass the captcha. #2 is also true of sysops, so the *only* reason to have a bot flag, is not to mark a robotic editor, but to hide edits from recent changes. I'm having trouble getting the forum up and running. I've completed everything except getting the "forumheader" temp to automatically appear on new topic pages. Thank you for creating the JavaScript countdown timers. I've used it on The Daily Edit and it's working really well. One small problem; the timer says 'TIME until'. Where do you put the rest? If the timers aren't installed, it will just say ' the next issue of The Daily Edit is published'. You can view the page source (browser source, not [edit]) to see the text of the sitenotice. You can go to MediaWiki:Sitenotice to see it. You can delete your cookies (or the specific cookie that wikia has set) to see it. You can try logging out to see it. Hello, I'm wondering why it somehow thinks that, on the Magic: The Gathering Wiki, it formats text after an inline template like it is code/preformatted. (see here for an example). I don't know if it is because of bad/nonexistent css or what, so please help! For inline templates <noinclude> should be on the same line as the text, with no extra line returns. This seems to have fixed it.
Also, the MediaWiki: defaults have been deleted because they take up unneeded space in Allpages. As of 1.9 the message system is much more efficient and can use the defaults directly from the /languages/messages/ folder. You can customize them simply by creating a page with different content, but you do not need to if it matches the default. --Splarka (talk) 02:35, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikia doesn't have Renameuser extension because Wikia uses a shared user database and that means your user account on any Wikia project belongs automatically to you and that's exactly the reason why Wikia doesn't have Renameuser: it'd cause horrible troubles, site slowing down and such. You can modify the CSS, via the local MediaWiki:Monobook.css. However, you can't do *everything* in the skin, you can only modify existing html elements in the UI (although you can make new elements via MediaWiki:Sidebar. Hi. I'm wondering if you could help me with two things on my new wiki.

First. I wanted to control the title of each page. I wanted to have the first paragraph overwrite the title above. I put up a JS, and it seems to be working, but I can't activate it at this template: http://imdb.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Occupation

Second. I wanted to try and use the same magic that requests.wikia.com are using at Template:Request/instructions. It looks like you put something like <div id="chooselang"> It looks like it's JS, but I can't find it in the javascript.js It's controlling which language is chosen in the form. This would be very helpful on my wiki. Maybe you could tell me how to do this?

First, the JS seems to be working a bit, but the version you copied is somewhat customized for enwp. It only changes the <h1 class="firstHeading"> if the result is pasteable back as a link to the article, like iPod and IPod mean the same thing to a wikilink. Also things like <sub> <sup> <small> <big>. You *are* changing the document title, but you are using it very weirdly in Template:Occupation. What exactly do you want to do? Have something like {{title|blah}} change the page title to <h1>blah</h1> ? This would be highly abusable and not advised. Perhaps you would prefer us to enable something like {{DISPLAYTITLE}} (which is disabled by default)?
Second: That is just a simple search-replace JS, at monobook.js. What it does, is if it sees that div on an edit page (in the editintro) it replaces it with a dropdown form, which in turn does a simple javascript itself to replace certain text strings in the edit box with the contents of the form. This type of trick can be used to augment an editform, but mostly only works on edit pages (or the search form) --Splarka (talk) 03:36, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
With the title change, humm, the most important thing in every page that uses Template:Occupation is the first paragraph. So I kind of wanted that to be the title. I know it's unusual, and I might just scratch that idea. But still, like it is now it's just repeating itself, "Colorist. Colorist is an occupation listed under Editorial Department." Instead of just saying "Colorist is an occupation listed under Editorial Department." I'll wait until I have more active users and see what they think about it.
Second. I'll try to put this monobook into my wikia. I don't know why I didn't see it when I looked at the monobook the first time. It looked empty. I must have been at www.wikia.com I'll let you know if I screw something up. --Steinninn 08:05, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
