Welcome, The parkster, to the Central Wikia!

We are a friendly community here; most of us are active on an individual Wikia, and many of us are active on more than one.

If you're looking for help, use the Community Portal or Help Desk. If your wiki needs something done, leave the details on the Volunteer Portal. If you need assistance from a member of staff, leave a message with one of the Community Team.

You can get live help from community members and staff in our IRC channel. There are also channels for larger Wikia and their communities. Here you can socialise and get to know your community!

If you have an idea for a new Wikia, please let us know! Check out new wikis and see if any of them interest you. A directory of existing wikis is also available.

Finally, please keep an eye on the recent changes to see what the community is up to and to help reverse spam and vandalism.

[edit] Burnout Paradise wiki forum topics

Hi there,

I was informed that you've posted a lot of messages on different Wikia about Burnout Paradise wiki. The messages seem to be identical to each other. I would have to ask you not to do that again; it is considered spam, which is rude and unwanted thing. You had posted the message on at least five different Wikia; I can't say that this would be the proper way to build up a community - more like the opposite. I have deleted the messages now. It's a common mistake to spam while trying to build up a community. Please refer to Forum:Attracting Contributors for some useful tips on how to attract users to your Wikia. No, I am not a staff member (I do not work for Wikia). So, I cannot create your wiki. When I said I supported the request, that means that I liked the concept of the wiki, and that I would try to help out as best as I can. For the top content link, you need to edit your MediaWiki:Navlinks to change them. For random image, you need to have a page that handles random images (which you don't have yet). For youtube videos, you don't upload them to Wikia, you simply embed (you can look at the wikitext code of bioshock to see how they did it).

You need to protect the computer you edit from, since whoever vandalized it was using your account to do so. -PanSola 17:57, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Also, if you are going to continue the protection of the Main Page, I suggest you putting a message on there clearly letting people know where they should go to suggest changes to the Main Page. On GuildWiki, the way we do it is to have a copy of the main page at Main Page/editcopy, and allow the users to edit it to show the admins their suggestions. In general though, Wikia's policy is to not protect the Main Page unless vandalism is a recurring problem on that page. In this recent case it's probably a sibling or a schoolmate pulling a prank on you when you left the home/school computer without logging out. Imagine if s/he vandalized a different wiki and actually get your account banned for something you did not do, that would have been really bad. -PanSola 18:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

As the sysop of Burnout Paradise Wiki, you have the power to ban user accounts committing vandalism, and you should utilize that power when patrolling your Recent Changes and article histories (you can easily tell whose account made what changes that way). My personal advise would be to only get the community team involved if your wiki is getting heavily vandalized (multiple times per day for many days) from multiple sources (different IP/accounts so that after you banned the offenders more still keep coming). And if your account is used to vandalized again, you might consider creating a new account with different password, promote the new account to Bcrat on your wiki, then ask the community team to remove the powers of your old account. • If you go to an article's history, you see a list of edits and who did it. Clicking on the date link of each entry shows you the version of that edit, whereas clicking the "last" link shows what the changes are (left side shows "before", right sides showing "after", with differences color-coded). Using this method, it is very easy to established whose account made the "malicious" edit, and at what time too. This way, in the future, you won't have to point fingers based on "who else has edited the article" (which can get messy if many people are involved), but in fact you can accurately pinpoint "which account made that edit at what time". I suggest you practice it on your Main Page's history to help in future situations (you'd be able to tell that 78 hours passed between my edit and the "malicious" one).
• As for random images, I'll take care of that this afternoon. Got a few other wikis I need to greet first.
• A "wiki" is basically a type of website that allows many people to edit it. (for a more technical explaination, see wikipedia:wiki).
• "Wikia" is a company that provides wiki services.
• Some people also use "wikia" to refer to a wiki hosted by the company Wikia.
