[edit] Spotlight

Hi Danny, A little over a month ago I requested a spotlight for the L&O Wiki. I was wondering how long the waiting list is. Several other wikia's (for example GTA and Recipes wikia) do appear, although they haven't been on the waiting list. Anyway, just checking. I hope the spotlight will appear soon. Thanks for your help. --ThePegasus 12:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm sorry -- we're a little bit behind with the spotlight graphics. It'll go up soon. Thanks for your patience! -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 16:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
No worries. Thanks for your response. --ThePegasus 08:50, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption request

Hey Danny, I was wondering if I could adopt the Jimi Hendrix Wiki, I am the only active member and have created what you see so far by myself, the original creator has been inactive for 3 months and has contributed absolutely nothing. Please help me, thanks. Andre666 01:29, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Monnaco Skin Change

Hi Danny!

Thank you very much for making me a bureaucrat. I have already tried the Monnaco Skin and I do not like it. These other skins give me a hard time, but I will see what I can do. Also, thanks again for the name change too.

With All Due Respect,

Jonathan "Asoue1286" Snicket(Leave Me a Message! / Email Me! / See My Contribs!)

Okay, I changed the Lemony Snicket Wiki skin to the Monnaco Slate skin. I am going to set up a poll on the Main Page to see how the LSW users like the skin change. If the majority of the votes say NO, I would like to change it back. On the other hand, if most of the votes are YES, I'll keep it. I don't like the skins too much, but if it works, I'll keep it. --Jonathan
Sorry, Danny, but I just can't keep the skin. It makes my computer run slow, and it seems too cluttered. Is there anything else I could try? I saw thwat on other wikis, especially (<--Spell Check?) on the Wikipedia wikis, that they have a personalized background. I was wondsering if you could help me do that on The Lemony snicket Wiki, please. Thanks. --Jonathan

[edit] Wiki Name Change

Hi Danny,

My name is Jonathan and I am an admin (and re-founder) of A Wiki of Unfortunate Events. I asked Angela about a name change and she told me to talk to you about that. I was wondering if I could change the name of A Wiki of Unfortunate Events to "Snickipedia". I was also wondering if you make me a bureaucrat on Snickipedia.

Please and Thank You,

Jonathan "Asoue1286" Snicket Image:Klaus.gif Leave a message on my Talk Page (Go Ahead, I Love to Hear From You)A Wiki of Unfortunate Events: We're Very Concerned

Hi, Jonathan! Yeah, I can help you change the wiki name. Before I do that, though... how would you feel about "Lemony Snicket Wiki"? Snickipedia is a funny name, but we've found that Google results go up when the name of the wiki matches the topic that people will be searching for. Folks will be looking for "Lemony Snicket", but nobody's going to type "Snickipedia" into a search engine. What do you think about that? -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 17:07, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Danny, That would work, I never thought about what people would be searching under. Please make it be Lemony Snicket Wiki. Also, I started another Lemony Snicket wiki for fan fiction and I was wondering if you could help me put word out that I need help getting it ready. Thanks. Jonathan "Asoue1286" Snicket(Leave Me a Message! / Email Me! / See My Contribs!)   P.S. How do you create talk page archives? (Mine needs one badly)

[edit] Template Trouble

Hey, Danny, It's Tim from the Third Turn. I've been working a lot lately with tables and whatnot and there is one Wikipedia template I am trying to copy over that I am just having a heck of a hard time with. I'm not sure if it's within your power to do, but you were helpful with other design issues.

The Wikipedia template is: Template:Birth Date and Age

Thanks again. DaNASCAT 15:43, 3 April 2008 (UTC)--

Ok, I think I figured out how do to it. However, I was wondering if you have the power to install a MediaWiki extension on our site. We are beginning some major table work and need some of the major extensions for it to work well. (Sorry if you're not the one in charge of this, I just know you best. Please redirect me when needed). Mainly, we need Extension:DynamicPageList (if not current), Extension:DataTable, Extension:StackFunctions, and basically anything else than can help with automatic database queries. Thanks DaNASCAT 15:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)--

[edit] Adoption

Hi there Danny, I had a few questions about adopting a Wiki. I'd like to adopt the Guitar Hero Wiki, because the two Sysops there are missing, and there's a lot I could add. But do I have to have a certain number of edits there? I already have bureaucrat experience, see [1]. This Wiki could have a lot added to it, and could use some tender, loving care :)
Thanks for your time,
Eu(Talk!Contribs) 21:36, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikia Spotlight

Hi Danny/Toughpigs (dunno what you'd rather be called!),

Just wondering if you could possibly have a look at my request for a Wikia Spotlight? It's the trams wiki.

[edit] Adoption: Pooh & ALF

Hello,

I would like to adopt the wikis ALF wiki and Winnie-the-Pooh wiki. I've contributed to both, especially the ALF wiki. Both appear to have been abandoned shortly after they were created. This is especially true for the ALF wiki which seemed to be completely empty (no articles related to the subject matter) when I found it. Poetic 04:21, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it would be great to have you work on either one. I think adopting both is a really big job -- it's probably a better idea to pick your favorite one, and then focus on that. If it could just be one, which one would you prefer? -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 04:41, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, That's a good question. I definitely prefer the ALF one more (I'm a big fan), but the Pooh wiki has far more room for expansion (alf only has one notable series + a movie (and no mention of future shows or movies), pooh has dozens of series, movies, and books (and is still growing)), not to mention Pooh was my childhood favorite.
Maybe I could adopt the Alf wiki now, but still continue to contribute to both. In a month or two if I'm still contributing heavily to both, and feel I'm up for the responsibility, I could come back and request adoption of the Pooh wiki. Sound good? Poetic 17:52, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that sounds great! I think you're right -- it's good to start with the one that you're more passionate about. Once that goes well, then Pooh would be a great one to work on. I'll see you on the ALF wiki! -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 17:57, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Great, thanks for giving me the opportunity! Poetic 18:15, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ads

The annoying ad [2] reappeared. The complete HTTP requests till getting the ad is here: [3]. It's a result from a HTTP redirect and some javascript generated content so maybe blocking that single url doesn't block the ad, because there are 4 intermediate requests in the middle. Another annoying one is retrieved doing a request to [4] (the 4th request in the log), which sends sometimes a document.write of [5] . Thanks. --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 14:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] KND Wikia

Hi, I saw your post on the KND Wikia. I wanted to let you know that I understand both those points you brought up; and I know I did get a bit carried away about the last vandal there, but I don't usually do that at all.

Anyway, thanks! --Cornflower Image:CornflowerIcon.JPG Talk! 15:25, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Hello, again, Mr. Horn. I have noticed the official categories of the creative wikis are not organized, and the most are categorized as "More Wikis", "Miscellaneous", Hobbies and Books, and those categories just do not fit as there is already a "Creative" category like the one of Imagination Wiki.

I was wondering if it is possible to set the categories of Novelas (Fiction), ConLang, ConWorld, RPG, Basilics and Quest on "Creative". They (except Fiction) are not even listed in the hubs of their supposed categories, and now that we have a totally functional Creative Hub it will be nice to join them all in a whole category.

I hope there would be a way to do that. Thanks for your support!!! Mighty Erick{{SUBST:Erick}} 12:51, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I made sure that all of those wikis are listed in the Wikia database as Creative. It may take a little bit for the "breadcrumbs" at the top of the page to catch up with the cache. I see "Creative" at the top right now for Novelas, Imagine, Quest and Conlang. The others should catch up soon.
Thanks for pointing out that those were mis-categorized. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 02:06, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] adding

I am adding the other 1000+ articles wikis to the featured list (ConLang, RPG and Imagination). I am not adding Myra as I have to confess I am not sure what it is about. The only thing I know is it is a giant collaborative novel. ConLang is becoming active again, so I will feature it too.

I am redirecting Imagination to Creative: It is redundant.

About Uncyclopedia: I guess we can work with. Well, let's see the output. I just hope our wikis do not get vandalized by those psychos of Uncyc. :)

Mighty Erick{{SUBST:Erick}} 21:12, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

That looks great. I'm glad that you and I could work together on this, and come up with something that we're both happy with. :)
I wouldn't worry about the Uncyc folks coming to vandalize. They seem pretty busy on their own wiki. If you do have any problems, let me know and I'll be happy to help out. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 23:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Uncyclopedia on Creative

Hello. It is Erick, again. This message is concerning Uncyclopedia in the creative hub.

The problem I see with Uncyclopedia it is not about imagination and creativeness but parodies, in many cases offensive ones, full of racism, hatred and obscenity. People entering on that hub will get a wrong impression about how the other creative wikis work, and I guess we would get really coarse content. Unlike the most of Uncyclopedia, we have rules, and our wikis are basically coarse-content free. The logo itself of the Creative Hub is the one of Uncyclopedia, and it worries me.

I would prefer a different hub for Uncyclopedia, Nonciclopedia and related projects, may be "Humor hub" or "Obscenity Hub". I think they already are on Miscellaneous and many other places.

My suggestion is an united Imagination/Creative Hub including the 11 creative wikis: Alternative History, Novelas, Myra, Constructed Worlds, Constructed Languages, Imagination, RPG, Quests, Basilicus, The Anglish Moot and Poetry. Thanks for your time.

P.S: Myra has a german section.

Mighty Erick{{SUBST:Erick}} 18:16, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

I think people can be creative in many ways. When you open the door to imagination and creative writing, some people will write beautiful stories, some will write sad stories, and some will write silly or offensive stories. Each wiki community has its own style, and attracts its own group of users.
Uncyclopedia is one of the most popular wikis on Wikia, with more than 500 active contributors every month. The content that they create is obviously not to your taste. Still, the site appeals to a large and dedicated user base, and I think every wiki community deserves our respect and appreciation. The world of creative writing can be big enough to hold all kinds of styles, and I hope that we'll continue to see even more variety in the future.
I'm glad you pointed out that using the Uncyc logo for the hub isn't a good representation of the hub as a whole. I just swapped in another logo that I'm sure you'll appreciate more. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 19:35, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Creative Hub

I am adding the other creatives wiki on the Creative Hub. I was wondering if I can add some more wikis as Featured. Thanks!

P.S.: I will continue working on the Imagination Hub too. I feel like Uncyclopedia overshadows the wikis on Creative. Mighty Erick 13:59, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Erick! That's great, I'm glad that you've added some of the wikis that I overlooked. Feel free to add some to the Featured list. I took out Myra Project, because that's a German wiki... We don't have hubs for the non-English wikis yet.
I'm not sure what you mean about Uncyc overshadowing the others... I think it's a nice model for the potential reach of Creative wikis on Wikia. It's silly and often profane, but it proves that there are a lot of people who want to write original content. The idea of the hubs is to help people who are normally on one wiki to find similar wikis to explore -- and being on the Creative hub may mean that the huge number of people who are writing on Uncyc will discover that there are lots of other creative outlets on Wikia. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 14:16, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help Fix Skin

Hi, I wasn't sure what admin to ask about the new skin. Anyway, it got accidently deleted on the Terminator Wiki, could you stop by and fix it? Thanks! — Jeiara 00:23, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NASCAR Wiki Update

Danny, it's Tim. I'm currently working at a filtered workplace, so I can't get to my personal email at the moment. I have begun working on the replacement of all "NASCAR" wordage with "The Third Turn" wordage. I never knew though, if you're planning to (or are able to for that matter) change the parent address from nascar.wikia.com to thirdturn.wikia.com. If so, please let me know soon if you can and when you expect for that to be able to happen. Thanks - Tim

Danny, thanks for the site change. I see what you mean about Monobook and Monaco. It seems to only be doing Monobook.css for anytime I am editing an article. If you could look into that, it would be appreciated. --DaNASCAT 23:34, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WonderCon Contest Winner?

Hey there! I got an e-mail a few weeks ago informing me I had one the grand prize for the WonderCon giveaway. I e-mailed Scott back (Scarecroe), but I haven't heard anything back. :( What's going on?

Thanks! Rossr 00:59, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Ross! I'm sorry, there must have been a crossed wire somewhere. I'll check with Scott, and make sure that he gets in touch with you so you get your prize. Thanks for checking in -- I'm sorry about the delay! -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 01:20, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spanish Harry Potter Wiki - Adoption

Hi. The Spanish Harry Potter wiki is currently inactive, and I want to adopt it. I'm sysop in 3 wikis, bureucrat in 1, rollback in 1 and normal user in a lot of other wikis. It isn't for adoption at the moment, but there's no activity, and I want to adopt. I'm waiting for your answer :-) Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 09:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Sure! It looks like you've done good things on the other wikis you've worked on. Have you talked to Juan David? He's working to build up all of the Spanish-language wikis. Maybe you could ask him about an internship... -- Danny (talk) 23:33, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I like editing on wikis, because I like writing. I'm talking about this to Juan David... but internship is very much for me. Anyway, I'm talking with him sometimes. About the adoption.. I see that I'm a Sysop, but I can't delete pages.. when I try, it said that I am not a sysop... anyway, I should not be bureaucrat? Because I'm adopting, and I think... Greetings, Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 14:30, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
That's strange, I thought you should have the ability to delete as a Sysop. But I've added you as a bureaucrat, so everything should work now! -- Danny (talk) 16:55, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, it works now... thanks! ;-) Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 17:22, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hello re: The Sherlock Holmes Wiki Adoption....

I got logged in and it took me to the editing page. Maybe it is taken care of now. I will work with it and thanks so much for helping.

[edit] Imagination Hub

Hello Mr. Horn. I am Mighty Erick, administrator of ImagineWiki. Mr. Hou told me you are in-charge of the Imagination Hub. The imagination hub is supposed to be only-for creative wikis, I think. Isnt it? Well, three non-creative wikis listed in that hub that are robbing space from the creative wikis.

  • Fantasy Wiki: It is about existent books and series, there is not creatve content. The feautured articles is about dragons in the media, and the most popular articles in an articles on Lord of the Rings. That is not a creative wiki, it belongs to Entertainment division.
  • SciFi Wiki: It is about existent sci-fi series: Star Wars, Babylon 5. What is it doing in our hub? (Belong to Entertainment)
  • Magic Wiki: It is a "How to do..." wiki on special effects and magic. No original content, belongs to... I do not know where does it belong, but it is not creative nor imaginative at all.

Those three wikis have to be removed out from our hub.

About the active list of imagination wikis: Can Imagine join to the "Active Wiks" list. We have three really actives users (Abcxyzzz, JuWki and me) and lots of minor users we have a constantly updated Main Page, over 1000 articles and by far more activity than ConWorlds and ConLangs.

The only totally-abandoned wikis are Basilicus and Quest. They have not updated their main pages since a long time ago, they have no administrators and Basiliscus is being openly vandalized. (Look Out! this and this and more stuff). So my suggestion is: Four wikis at active wikis list, and two wikis at "Adopt a tiny wiki" list. It would give some distinction to my wiki and it would attract some attention for Basilicus and Quests, they both really need help. THANKS Mightyerick 13:30, 2 March 2008 (UTC) (Talk at Imagine)

Hi Erick -- Yeah, the Imagination hub is definitely out of date. I didn't create the hub originally -- Yunzhong Hou created it, and added the Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Magic wikis to the hub.
I'm working on revamping the hub system a bit now. I'm going to be creating a Creative hub soon, which I think will be more to your liking. -- Danny (talk) 16:16, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
