[edit] Welcome

Hi. Welcome to the Central Wikia. Thanks for proposing your favorite Wikia for featuring. However, you may not vote for someone else, so your vote was invalid. You may vote again, correctly, if you wish. --CocoaZen 00:04, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I see that you both voted on the wrong page. It doesn't count when you don't vote correctly, but because it seems to be an honest mistake, I'm letting you know about it. (I don't usually write to people who cast invalid votes.) And you can vote again, correctly. You may also let the other person and others on the Fiction wiki know how to vote correctly. I cannot vote for you -- that would be invalid too. --CocoaZen 00:19, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MediaWiki 1.9

You said the second item under the Wikia part of the sidebar is blank. I don't understand which part you mean. Is the 3nd link the "live wiki help" one? That should take you to irc.wikia.com. Angela talk 15:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Never mind. I see the problem now if I log out. Angela talk 16:36, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Imagination

Hi there -- I saw your Imagination hub page. It's really cool! I played around with it some... What do you think? -- Danny (talk) 17:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beta Search error

Yeah, that's a known problem and it'll be fixed in the next search engine update. :)

Also, you can enter those pages (such as User:Angela) by typing the pagename on the search field and pressing "go" with your mouse. If you hit enter, it's the same as if you'd hit "search" and it will give you the error. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 22:11, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

==Old admins-- Thanks for letting us know. Some wikis feel it is important to de-sysop inactive users, since theoretically if their password was broken the hacker could do more damage to the wiki using admin powers. Wikia doesn't encourage this as a general practice because we have never had a problem with a hacked password, and we believe de-sysopping people who could potentially return and do more good is likely to generate more ill will than the damage it is meant to prevent, which is easily fixable in any case.

We encourage all users, but especially sysops, to generate more secure passwords (long, including numbers and symbols, not a dictionary word) if they are concerned about this issue. — Catherine@Wikia (talk) 14:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Next step after bureaucrat

Hello. Stewards are just something that Wikimedia has. It's not in use on Wikia. Angela@Wikia (talk) 06:36, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hubs

Hi there -- I'm glad that you want to be active about promoting the Novelas wiki. I'm actually working right now on revamping the hubs a bit -- and part of that is creating a new Creative Writing hub, where Novelas will definitely be featured. I think we'll do that this week -- if not, then very soon after.

For now, I'm going to take your changes off the hubs -- the Hubs FAQ says that a wiki should only be featured on one hub, and you've added Novelas to four at once. If you can hang with me for a week or so, then the Creative Writing hub will be up and running soon. Does that sound good? -- Danny (talk) 20:28, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. I don't know if this is possible, but I would like for Novelas to be a central hub connecting the other creative writing wikia, which is what I proposed on Angela's user talk page. I've had experience with Fiction and Future for a long time, and hope that it will come in handy in the project ahead of us. --Yunzhong Hou
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. There will be a number of active wikis on the Creative Writing hub, including Uncyclopedia and Alternate History. These are all independent wikis, with their own styles and their own communities.
I'm not sure how one wiki could be a "central hub" for other wikis. What would that mean? -- Danny (talk) 20:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
It would probably entail a set of pages providing help on writing proficiently (creative writing), symbolism, character development, literature, that kind of thing. The need for an orderly system is especially acute for role playing (interactive fiction, see Quest wikia) and conworlding, both activities of which have popped up in multiple wikia in a disorderly fashion. With Novelas as a central hub for these (and not including Uncyclopedia), we would be better able to streamline these disparate activities and sort things better. --Yunzhong Hou
If you've got a set of help pages on Novelas, then how would that system propagate to other wikis? Each wiki is allowed to create the guidelines and systems that work for that community. Are you proposing to enforce a single set of standards on all creative writing wikis? What would happen if a community didn't want to use those standards? -- Danny (talk) 21:17, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Replies to your 3 questions

Licenses
By-nc-nd is not an acceptable license for Wikia. Only free content licenses can be used and that isn't one. For ownership policies, please see ownership. If users do not want their work edited, they simply shouldn't put it on a wiki.
Incubator
I didn't mean to use Wikimedia's Incubator. I meant a similar wiki could be set up as an Incubator for conworlds that are too small to have their own separate wiki.
Blocked
Villa Cruoninga has already unblocked you on the alt history wiki.

Angela@Wikia (talk) 05:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Mister Hou.

Well, I got a new account, I got my own wiki, I am bureaucrat there (:)), so it would be a new beginning. So... What the rats!!! Let's cooperate.

Anyway, I have three new requests for creative wikis waiting on (Yes, I could not stuff all my... stuff on this new wiki because I was not writing only about Fantasy. Even Broukolia does not fit totally there... It even has cars! Lots of them!), and I prefer to not run into risks until they are approved (It would take some time, some rules state I can not request again until the next month), so I will keep limited my edits to Conmyth, Fantasy-Wiki and Scratchpad wikis until I get my other wikis. Meanwhile, you can edit anywhere, I guess.

About the creative wikia pages: Give me some time, I guess I had to customize those pages.

Thanks for your post. It is nice to see you are still interested on joining together our hub.

[edit] Tornado Warning

Hello, Mr. Hou. It is me, the other coordinator of the creative hub. I was welcoming new wikis to the Creative Wikia as usual, then I found this new wiki: Short Stories. That wiki is overlapping one of the main Fiction Wiki's community target (Short Stories)), and it would take away new users from Fiction in a probable future. I know it does not look like a danger right now. Indeed, the most new wikis never start (Large-Scale Vanishing User Syndrome!) but if it does it would be a long-term problem for fiction. This wiki has to be absorbed by Fiction before it even starts, may be you have to talk to Angela or something like that (I would, but Fiction is your wiki and it will be better if you handle this problem). We do not need more wikis on tales, I guess.

Mightik {{SUBST:Erick}} 11:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Erick and Yunzhong -- I'm not sure where you got the idea that you guys are the "coordinators" of the Creative hub. You are both valuable contributors, but you are not staff members, and you are not in charge of the Creative wikis on Wikia.
I'm glad that you're thinking about how to improve the wikis that you work on. It's good to reach out to other wikis and invite other contributors to work with you. However, I'm concerned about the tone of your message here, which indicates that you consider other wikis to be "dangerous", and that you would interfere with the development of another wiki.
Obviously, we try to avoid direct overlap of wiki topics -- but we often have separate spaces for areas where people are working on similar projects with a different approach. That happens a lot with Fan Fiction wikis, which are often separate from the main wiki about the topic.
It is especially important for Creative wikis that we allow people the freedom to experiment and create. Nobody owns the Creative hub, and nobody controls where people choose to write on Wikia. A new Creative wiki on Wikia should be welcomed and encouraged.
Erick, I'm happy to see that you left a message on Short Stories welcoming the new founder. Please don't represent yourself as the coordinator of the Creative hub, or the Creative Web Ring. That implies that you're an official representative of Wikia. It's good for you to be an active community member; it's bad if you think that you have the power to control where and how people write on Wikia. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 14:23, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Greetings Danny,
I don't know who gave the go-ahead for the short stories wiki, but it is redundant considering its mandate is entirely eclipsed by that of the Fiction wiki. I don't view it as a danger, but don't you think it would be better for peoples' attention to be focused on a single wiki, considering Fiction is still a small community? Is there any possibility of combining the two?
I self-appointed myself as a coordinator for the creative hub because there was a vacuum there. Coordinator isn't even an actual position, nor am I presenting myself as being a wikia representative. Meanwhile... I don't know about what Mightyerick is attempting to accomplish by saying he's the other coordinator.
Cheers, Yunzhong Hou
Hi Yunzhong -- New wiki requests are approved by Wikia staff. I assume that there was a conversation with the founder about whether they wanted to join the Fiction wiki or start a new one, and the result was that they started a new wiki.
In my opinion, Creative wikis should have a little more leeway than other wikis to create new communities. The ideal situation is to have a diverse set of Creative wikis, with lots of different people creating different kinds of communities. People should have the freedom to create and invent, in the way that feels right for them.
I want to reiterate that you are not the coordinator for the Creative hub. You and I talked about this a couple of months ago -- see the "Hubs" discussion above. Novelas is not the central hub for creative writing on Wikia, and you are not in charge of other wikis. You are the admin for Novelas, and you do great work there.
Please do not represent yourself on Central or on any other wiki as a coordinator for the Creative hub. Creativity does not need to be centralized or controlled on Wikia. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 17:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, The "coordinator" thingy is because I am trying, just like Hou, to make all those 8 wikis some sort of big unique community. Sorry if you misunderstand me. I will stop welcoming people of new wikis and inviting them... no problem. Sorry, again, it is only our communities are too small, and a big community would be better.

{{SUBST:Erick}} 01:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Sometimes I feel so lonely... I need to talk to somebody!!!{{SUBST:Erick}} 01:05, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

OK! I will stop finding for overlaps and trying to make a super-mega-community.

I just wanted to help... But yet again I ruined it... Ugh....{{SUBST:Erick}} 01:14, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Erick, you've got a nice little community that's building up on Conmyth. I think you can encourage that community to grow without making yourself into a "coordinator" for other wikis. -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 01:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
