Wikia - creating communities

Wikia Inc hit major new milestones in the fourth quarter of 2008, with page views doubling in the last year and visitors more than tripling. Wikia had over 500mm pageviews in November 2008, up from 250mm pageviews in November 2007. Comscore's most recent report also showed that US unique visitors have more than tripled in the past year (October 2007 vs October 2008).

Wikia is now a top 200 website according to Quantcast, reaching an all time high of 16mm unique visitors in November (link) and continues to be roughly 3 years behind Wikipedia in its number of articles, as the site is on track to exceed 2 million original pages of content in early 2009.

In addition, the number of content communities on Wikia grew from 4,600 to 11,000 in 2008. This level of growth is only possible because Wikia continues to work closely with communities to help them grow their content, keep their sites fast, improve their tools and gain new contributors and friends that make it fun to come back. Wikia remains a stable host, with increased site availability and speed and is on track to be profitable for the first time in 2009 based on current growth trends.
