The Wikia creation policy disallows the creation of wikis which have the primary goal of duplicating any existing Wikimedia project.

[edit] Creating a new language encyclopedia

If you want to create an encyclopedia, please do this at Wikipedia. If you want to create an encyclopedia in a language that Wikipedia does not yet have, please request that language at requests for new languages on Meta.

For languages that are not opposed at Meta, but don't yet have enough supporters, a trial wiki can be made at incubator.

If, after discussing or trialing your language at Meta, you find there is no support within the Wikimedia community for that new language, then you can consider using Wikia instead. See creating a new language encyclopedia at Wikia.

[edit] Creating a new language encyclopedia at Wikia

This section only applies if the language in which you want to create an encyclopedia has been rejected by the Wikimedia community.

If the language is a constructed, artificial, or fictional, you will need to trial the wiki at the Conlang Wikia. See, for example, Bbe:Mein Peij or Ngle:Main. If your encyclopedia proves successful there, it can be moved to its own wiki at a later date. You may also want to consider moving it to Wikimedia if its success changes the opinions of the community there.

If the language you are requesting is not a conlang and is not supported by Wikimedia, please request a Wikia at requests.wikia.com.

If you want a more temporary, informal, space to trial your project, please use our WikiLabs area at scratchpad.wikia.com where there is no creation policy. Please note that the terms of use still apply at WikiLabs.

[edit] Interface

The interface on any Wikia can be translated into any language you like, including ones not currently supported by MediaWiki (such as Afar) or by Wikimedia (such as Brazilian Portuguese). See languages for more information.

[edit] Examples of encyclopedias within Wikia

  • Toki Pona and Klingon are examples of Wikia sites that contain encyclopedic content in constructed languages that was formerly supported by Wikimedia.
  • Tokcir is an example of a constructed language encyclopedia being developed at the Conlang Wikia.
  • Aeres is an example of a natural language without an ISO 639-code and therefore was rejected.
