What do we want from this bot? Please add ideas, requests, etc. here:

The ability to work as a full bot.
The ability to take a list of wikis, and edit the same page on each.

I think the checkpage needs to be at the exact URL for the bot to see it, but we could move this page, leave the redirect, and leave the checkpage? Whatever you think best -- sannse (talk) 09:56, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Just for expansion of information =p

MBW will be looking for : Wikia:AWB/CheckPage
AWB will be looking for : Wikia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage (this one checks for users levels permitions and pages that it should not touch because of various automatic features AWB has) and this Wikia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage/Version (this is to limit which versions of AWB can run on that wiki to avoid people exploting old features that are a problem and forcing people to upgrade version, but im not sure if he will do the same here)

So moving a simple reference page does not make any big of an issue, thought i dont know what MaxSem has in mide for the general check list. --Cizagna ^(Talk) 01:52, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

A couple of points: there is always only one version checkpage, and it's on Wikipedia. And I'm still not sure what to do about some things like list of pages to ignore and list of pages containing underscore. These lists just have to be local. MaxSem 06:11, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Will it ever work again ?

Since version 4.1, AutoWikiBrowser don't work on Wikia. And now, they have totally disabled the only version that was still useable (version 4.0) so this wonderfull piece of software dont work on Wikia anymore even though we can still select Wikia as our project.

This screen capture show the error message we get when exiting the user project prefs windows after selecting Wikia : [1] (on ImageShack).

It has been some months now since i made the first message about this problem on some other talk pages around here. The problem is that AutoWikiBrowser try to find api.php in /w/ but it's in / on Wikia. Techs here responded "you must make your bot look in the right path". It's NOT my bot, so i've reported this to the devs of the software who said "you must tell Wikia staff to do a symlink in /w/" so that they wont have to modify AutoWikiBrowser.

So, Wikia send me to the devs of the software whos send me back at Wikia so i really dont kwon what to do because no one seems to really care about the problem here. Me, i can't do anything about it. I can't make a symlink on Wikia and i can't modify the software because i dont own MS-Visual Studio (if it's what they use) and i dont know the C language or any of his variant (i know VB and some other but not C).

So, in AutoWikiBrowser description on it's web site (or wikipedia page) it say it work in custom projects inculding Wikia. Some weeks ago i've post a message on their project talk page saying "please, stop saying that this software works on Wikia because it doesn't and Wikia staff dont seems to want or be able to do thoses symlinks" but aside of one of them responding "i'll investigate this", they have done nothing.

So, my conclusion is that AutoWikiBrowser will never work on Wikia again because nor the devs nor Wikia see this as an important matter.

But, you don't know how important it is for wikia wikis that have a real lot of pages and just a few people to do the work. Every week i received demands of things to be done with a bot over at fr.guildwars.wikia and even more now that ArenaNet, the devs of GuildWars, has changed a real lot of things in the french translation.

WE need AutoWikiBrowser ! Please, do something. Talk with the dev team over at wikipedia:Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser so they change the software or give us the symlinks that we need.

And why can't they use the {{SCRIPTPATH}} magic word to find where is the script ? On Wikia the returned string is empty. They can use check page, i'm sure something can be done. — Tulip Vorlax 02:51, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

No, sysop dont need to be on the check page, just bot. And my bot account is already there (Vorlax1). Or at least, it was like that in the version before they choose to use the file API.PHP so the bot would put less tress on the servers. And it's really not the problem here.

I've just downloaded last version of AutoWikiBrowser a few days ago and i can't even select Wikia in the the project preferences. Everytime i do and click Apply, i get this error message :

And it return to the english wikipedia project. I cant even try to log in, it dont even let me select Wikia !

Are you sure you are talking about the full version of AutoWikiBrowser and not the other one, MWiki-Browser ?

What are you typing in the second box ?

I've already tried many other wikia url/name without the fr part so i know having the fr prefixe is irrelevent.

So, if it works for you, please, tell me how you do this miracle ? Wich version of it are you using ? Did you changed anything in the software directory ? Ok, found a way i think. I was able to login in my sysop account by selecting custom project and entering fr.guildwars.wiki.com in the URL text area.

I'll test with the bot account later (because i must log out my normal account so IE gets the proper cookie and i dont want to do this yet).
