Current eventsSeeds of Peace Collective is sponsoring an Action Camp and Wilderness First Responder training in Northern Wisconsin (Anathoth Community Farm near the small town of Luck, Wisconsin), from July 6-27, 2008. Interested parties are invited to participate in one or both sections of the Camp. The Action Camp will include trainings on non-violence, direct action, community organizing, blockades, guerrilla kitchens, group consensus decision-making, legal defense, affinity groups, and other topics. The dates for the Direct Action Camp are July 6-14. The Direct Action Camp is free and open to all. Seeds Of Peace is requesting donations to help cover costs. Aerie School Of Backcountry Medicine, based in Missoula, MT, will teach the Wilderness First Responder section. The WFR is a nine-day intensive course, at the end of which you will be nationally certified. The dates for the WFR section are July 15- 24. The Action Medical section follows, and will be taught by members of Seeds Of Peace and other experienced trainers. The dates for the Action-Medical section are July 25-27. All of our trainers are EMTs or WFRs, and are long-time medics. Because Aerie supports the work we do, they have offered us a substantial discount on their usual fee. The fee for this course is $450.00. Because the entire fee goes to Aerie, we cannot offer discounts of any kind. Applications and additional information are available at seedsofpeace(at)riseup.net and office #406-721-5646, cell #707-233-1850 (EST). | |
What is a street medic?Street medic "Alpha Team." Protests against the Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue. Cincinnati 2000. Street medics, or action medics, are volunteers with varying degrees of medical training who attend protests and demonstrations to provide medical care such as first aid. Unlike emergency medical technicians, who work for state-sponsored institutions, street medics operate as civilians, and are not protected from arrest. Street medic organizations also run low-income herbal health clinics, wellness clinics for migrant workers, and temporary family practice clinics to support people who are organizing for self-defense or advocating for their rights. A group of street medics founded the first health clinic to open in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. More about street medicsWhat can you do to help?
