An apple (Malus domestica) is an edible fruit with a sweet taste; red, green, or even yellow in color. Besides the domestic apple native to Earth, different varieties of apples have been known to be cultivated in otherworldly forms.
The reception hall at the Federation Council meeting hall in San Francisco featured a bowl of apples, one of which was picked up by the Klingon Kelvis. He used the apple, thrown at a high velocity, to render Dav unconscious. (DC TOS volume 2 The Trial of James T. Kirk)
In order to appear inconspicuous among Human Starfleet cadets, Data learned to order a chicken sandwich, apple and glass of milk when eating in company. Tasha Yar referred to the meal as "misfit camouflage". (TNG novel "Survivors")
Commander William Riker, while inspecting Farpoint Station, expressed a desire for an apple to Groppler Zorn in 2364. Miraculously, a bowl of red apples appeared moments thereafter, created by the station. (TNG novelization "Encounter at Farpoint")
