Benzite

The Benzites were a humanoid species native to Benzar. (TNG episode: Coming of Age)

Benzites had a chitinous blue-silver shell and their blood was an orange colour, made from mercury and platinum. The benzite repository system required in input of chlorine which is exhaled as carbon trichloride. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)

Because of their cellular growth patterns organ transplants on Benzites rarely took hold. Thanks to this there was little Doctor Julian Bashir could do to save the life of the Benzite Monyodin when his alveoli were liquefied by a polymer gas in April 2376. (DS9 novel: Avatar)
